چکیده

Trace impurity transport in tokamaks is studied using an electrostatic, collisionless fluid model for Ion-Temperature-Gradient (ITG) and Trapped-Electron (TE) mode driven turbulence in the presence of radio frequency (rf) fields in the ion cyclotron range of frequencies, and the results are compared with neoclassical predictions. Two separate effects of the rf field on ITG/TE-mode stability and impurity transport are considered, namely an incoherent interaction between a fast magnetosonic source wave and ITG modes; and the ponderomotive force associated with the rf field of the fast magnetosonic wave. It is shown that the trace impurity transport can be affected by the rf fields. However, the impurity diffusivity and convective velocity (pinch) are usually similarly affected and hence the steady state impurity density peaking factor -∇nz/nz is only moderately affected by the rf fields.

Synergy of anomalous transport and radiation in the density limit.

The critical plasma density n(cr) above which the edge anomalous transport in tokamaks is dominated by drift resistive ballooning instability is found analytically. In this transport regime, the drastic increase of particle losses and drop of the edge temperature provoke a strong increase in impurity radiation, and thermal equilibrium does not exist if the density is ramped up above the ultimat...

TH/P8-30 Global Nonlinear Simulations of Ion and Electron Turbulence Usintg a Particle-In-Cell Approach

Ion-Temperature-Gradient and Trapped-Electron-Mode are two most likely candidates to explain the anomalous transport observed in Tokamaks. These turbulent phenomena are studied with the help of the gyrokinetic theory. These simulations require huge CPU power. The different numerical schemes all have some serious limitations. In the case of the Particle-in-Cell approach, the unavoidable statisti...

Pfc/ja-82-25 on Impurity Transport in Tokamaks

We study theoretically the effects of diffusion, convection, and sawteeth on impurity profile evolution in tokamaks. Sawtooth effects are modeled after our' experimental observations that internal disruptions flatten radial profiles of impurity densities in the Alcator-C plasma core. We present numerical simulations and analytic results for confinement times and profile shapes, and we predict t...

Light impurity transport at an internal transport barrier in Alcator C-Mod

Density profiles for a light impurity, boron, are reported for internal transport barrier (ITB) discharges in Alcator C-Mod. During the ITB, the light impurity gradient steepens because the impurity pinch increases relative to diffusion. The ITB-induced impurity profile steepening is at approximately the same major radius as that for the main-ion profile. Neoclassical transport does not describ...

Anomalous thermoelectric transport of Dirac particles in graphene.

We report a thermoelectric study of graphene in both zero and applied magnetic fields. As a direct consequence of the linear dispersion of massless particles, we find that the Seebeck coefficient Sxx diverges with 1/sqrt[|n_{2D}|], where n_{2D} is the carrier density. We observe a very large Nernst signal S_{xy} ( approximately 50 microV/K at 8 T) at the Dirac point, and an oscillatory dependen...
